Moonlight and afterglow
Two consecutive January days at the same farm: a night of snow under the moon with one lit window, and an afternoon that turned orange before it turned black.
The snow had been down for weeks by then, deep enough to take the shape of everything underneath it. At night the whole field went blue and the only warm thing in it was one window.
The next afternoon did the opposite: flat orange from the horizon down, on a wall that had been grey all morning, for about twenty minutes.
3 January — night
