Forest and water
Two August afternoons: the forest as one surface from a high point, and a lake the next day with a thunderhead over it and one shaft of light on the far shore.
From high enough up, a forest stops being trees. It becomes one dark surface with the sky resting on its far edge, and the only thing that changes is where the light is standing.
The next afternoon that light turned up properly: a thunderhead over the lake, everything under it almost black, and a single shaft of sun finding the far shore while two people swam through the middle of it.
